Washougal City council will soon have a vacant seat to fill.  Council member Jon Russell has announced his resignation as of July 1st, with his last council meeting on June 25th.

Russell is moving his family to Virginia, where he has accepted a new position.

The seven-member council has voted to start notice as of June 5th for Washougal City citizens to apply for the position.  Deadline to submit applications is Tuesday June 26th at 5pm.

Candidate interviews, possible new member appointment, and, if an appointment occurs, the swearing in of the new member will take place at the regular council meeting on July 2nd.

The term of the new council member will begin once they are sworn in, and will continue until the next general election in 2013.  At that time, if they wish to continue in this seat, they must run in the election on November 5th.  The newly elected person will then take office.

Applicants are requested to submit a one-page cover letter indicating their interest in the position, as well as their general qualifications.  They must also submit a resume that is no longer than 2 pages.  Click Here to view and print the application packet information.

Applications, once submitted, will become part of public record.  All applications that meet the requirements will be posted on the city’s website as part of the council packet the week prior to the interviews.

Application packets can also be picked up at Washougal City Hall, 1701 C Street in Washougal, or they may be downloaded from the City website at  Completed application packets should be addressed to:
