According to Clark County Public Works, anyone heading to the Washougal MX National motocross this Saturday may bypass some traffic by using Salmon Falls Road and Canyon Creek Road north of  State Route 14 in Skamania County.

Earlier this week, a short section of Northeast Washougal River Road was closed for a private contractor to replace Cougar Creek Bridge (#1409) on the way to the motocross park.

The project’s primary detour takes drivers north from Washougal on Southeast 32nd Street leading to Southeast Vernon Road and connecting with Washougal River Road east of the Cougar Creek closure.

There is a second option farther east.  From Highway 14, drive north on Salmon Falls Road and turn left onto Canyon Creek Road. Continue to the T intersection with Washougal River Road. Turn left and drive west before turning right on Northeast 412th Avenue and entering the Washougal MX Park,40205 N.E. Borin Road.

A map is on the county’s website: www.clark.wa.gov/publicworks/roads/cougar.html, along with additional information about the bridge project.

The project will replace a 77-year-old timber bridge with a precast concrete girder bridge.  Conway Construction Co. of Ridgefield, the general contractor, has closed Washougal River Road from Milepost 5.1 to 5.2.

The project will be completed this fall.  ClarkCounty is offering an incentive for Conway to finish construction and open the road as soon as possible.
